Caption: A core of ice in the drill barrel at the James Ross Island drilling project. This ice forms part of a 364 metre long record of ice recovered from the ice cap on top of James Ross Island. This is the first deep ice core collected from the northern part of the Antarctic Peninsula, and one of only a handful of Antarctic ice cores that has reached the bedrock beneath the ice.
