Caption: Odontaster validus, the common Antarctic seastar, abundant in the shallow shelf waters of Antarctica, especially at Signy, Rothera and McMurdo. It is found from depths of 1000m to intertidal. They feed on a variety of things including sponges and form mass aggregations (often with nemertean worms) where plentiful food occurs such as a carcass on the seabed.
