Caption: A close up of the jaw of a leopard seal (Hydrurga leptonyx). These animals feed on penguins and other seals and the large upper and lower canines are used in their capture. Despite its image as a ruthless predator the main component of their diet is krill and the posterior teeth can also be used to sieve the ephausid shrimps from sea water. Note large canines, and serrated interlocking molars for straining krill
